How To Download Stellaris Mods Without Steam
This article is timeless and should be authentic for whatsoever version of the game.
- For instructions on how to mod, see modding
A modernistic (short for modification) is an alteration of the game and the objective of modding. Modifications can range from small tweaks to total conversions.
Installation [edit | edit source]
Mods tin exist downloaded and installed from several sources:
- Automatically using Paradox Launcher or manually from Paradox Mods
- Automatically using Steam's Client application from the Steam Workshop (Steam version only)
- Manually from User Modifications sub-forum (game registration needed)
When running Stellaris from Steam, the modernistic installation folder is:
- Windows:
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\modernistic\ - GNU/Linux:
~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/modern/ - Mac:
~/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/modern/
From Paradox Launcher, the mod installation folder is:
- Windows:
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris Plaza\modernistic\ - GNU/Linux:
~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris Plaza/modern/ - Mac:
~/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/modernistic/
Never install mods into the game installation directory (ie: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Stellaris\mod or ~/.local/share/Paradox Launcher/games/stellaris/mod), equally the mods volition non be properly loaded.
Bank check in the mod clarification the Stellaris version compatible with the version of the mod. If needed, rollback to an older patch, using "Steam Beta" tab in Steam or the "Game Settings" tab in Paradox Launcher.
In case of manual installation, the steps are ordinarily the post-obit (refer to specific mod instructions, if any):
- Remove whatever existing installation of the mod (mod folder and .modernistic file). This is very important, as the game loads all files nowadays in modernistic binder, and then old modernistic files that are no longer nowadays or were renamed in a new version of the mod would conflict.
- Clear your gfx cache, by deleting the folder <stellaris_settings>\<mod_name>\gfx, if any.
- Extract the downloaded archive, and so that the modern binder contains the .mod file and directory of the modernistic.
- Launch Stellaris and select the modernistic in the Mod tab. Note that the mod may have a unlike name in the launcher than the name of the .modernistic file.
- Play!
When manually installing a modernistic (moving it into the mod/ directory), the launcher my still complain that it cannot find the mod. This is considering the modernistic'southward *.modernistic file may be providing a different path. For example, if the mod was ripped from Steam Workshop, the .mod file may point to a path similar "steam/workshop/<modfoldername>/". The right path should be "modernistic/<modfoldername>/" since y'all're not using Steam Workshop. Salve the file and so revisit the launcher. If the launcher reports that the mod still cannot be institute, you tin troubleshoot further by looking at the modern in the launcher's mod tools popup where information technology will prove you the verbal path where information technology is looking for the modern.
Also, when manually installing mods, y'all will be moving two files into the "mod/" tiptop-level: a "<modname>.modern" file and a "<modname>" folder. Then, if the mod'south proper name is MyMod, you lot should take "mod/MyMod.modern" and "mod/MyMod/". A mutual mistake when manually installing mods is that these files are inside of some other folder that is being dragged into the mod/ directory.
If yous *notwithstanding* are having trouble, then use the launcher'south modern surface area to create an empty modern from inside the launcher. Once created, go to the mod/ folder to see the structure of the newly generated mod and compare it with the structure of the modern you are trying to install.
